She started drawing with her father as soon as she was old enough to hold a pencil. In preschool, she felt a little awkward (but happy) because she was already sketching things in 3D, while her classmates were struggling to draw stick people. She can still vividly remember her rendition of the flame and the partially melted ice cube with a wet pool around it, “thanks to Daddy, a natural born artist – whose idea of playtime and bonding time was the drawing guessing game, way before we got to know Pictionary“. She still does the drawing guessing game with little kids and strongly believes that “we need to tap into their creative, inferential and expressive skills early on. It matters a lot to shaping one’s character for later in life”.
That said, between serious professional careers in the healthcare field and the corporate world that helped fund her multifarious hobbies and interests, she had also been a preschool/kindergarten teacher and earned her keep as a freehand glitter-tattoo artist for parties, a face painter for theater productions and an illustrator for abstract reasoning/visual requirements for IQ tests.
Working in the philosophy that life is short but the possibilities are endless, she also dabbles on other fields that are off the easel: “iPhoneography”, hula dancing, blogging/writing, cooking, being a devoted wifey and stepmom, plus maintaining (in her own words), ”a very gratifying” service-related nutraceutical deskjob in between. One of her dreams is not so much to travel the whole world, but to keep visiting a few favorites as well as learn a third language — ”Italian — because it sounds so beautiful“. She is fluent in English and Filipino/Tagalog, which is something she considers a big blessing especially for her Filipiniana and Baybayin-themed projects in the US.
She’s currently having a blast “coloring outside the lines”: writing her own children’s book and illustrating other authors’ books on the side. She also plays with other media when her mood and inspiration call for it, makes wire-wrapped jewelry and other wire sculpture projects, “photographs” with her iPhone daily, experiments with make-up on crazy days, chases beautiful skies (yes!) while discovering new passions everyday. She is featured at Phatskills.com.
Her main focus is making artwork with coffee and wine on paper and various Filipiniana themes (born perhaps of homesickness and nostalgia from her childhood) as well as Baybayin-themed art to help revive the very beautiful and multi-faceted long, lost ancient script of her motherland, Philippines. For her, “It is not dead, but merely sleeping…”
“I am a work in progress. And every artist has a dream, mine is to be known as “THE COFFEE AND WINE ARTIST” especially in the Bay Area (CA). I am looking forward to doing interesting projects or simply exhibiting my works for those who will be interested and thus, helping to spread the joy of using wine or coffee as an artistic medium.
I am most dedicated in paying tribute to my own people in my beloved homeland, Philippines, and to promote and preserve our very rich cultural heritage through my Filipiniana and Baybayin-themed art.
This site is meant for witnessing the journey and growth of this art, as well as the soul behind it.
Salamat po.”
