This piece depicts a popular highlight of the Batangas City fiesta, the fluvial parade at the Calumpang river where more than a century ago, the original Santo Niño statue was found floating on a log (aka Batang/Batangan) by the river bank. It’s a beautiful and nostalgic reminder to look back to the past, especially for those who have migrated away from the motherland. In reliving the memories, we are given a chance to begin again every year as we celebrate faith and devotion during the annual fiesta celebration.
